"Short stories have always been my favorite format rather than long, movie-like graphic novels or lengthy serialized stories like "Rebel." The beauty of a short story lies in its versatility—it can be about anything, allowing for shifts in subject and approach at will. It's all about embracing change, exploring new worlds, and keeping things enjoyable. This particular page holds a special place in my heart due to its subject matter and execution and because it features a live self-portrait of myself at the time of drawing the story.
I was really eager to work on this short story. I’ve always been fascinated with aircraft, and among them, the F4 Phantom was one of my favorites. The Twilight Zone was also one of my favorite TV shows, and I wanted to bring that twist to the story’s ending, all within the context of short war stories (thus the name “The war Zone”. I’m happy with how the story turned out, and the art still holds up well. In terms of color, I was just painting it as bright and filled with light, inspired by the masters like Joaquín Sorolla, who taught me to embrace the play of light in my work..
