"Short stories have always been my favorite format rather than long, movie-like graphic novels or lengthy serialized stories like "Rebel." The beauty of a short story lies in its versatility—it can be about anything, allowing for shifts in subject and approach at will. It's all about embracing change, exploring new worlds, and keeping things enjoyable. This particular page holds a special place in my heart due to its subject matter and execution and because it features a live self-portrait of myself at the time of drawing the story.
I wanted to change the feeling in this story as well and transition from WWI black and white (with doled-out sepia tones). I added a bit of color to the flag and other parts for effect, but kept it muted to build contrast with the Alice in Wonderland aspects of the second part of the story. Here, I wanted to go full blast color (and the colors I've been attributed to). How fun. Why war?
