The War Zone (Digital Graphic Novel)

By: Pepe Moreno, 1985

Language options: French, English, Spanish

Title: "The War Zone" (Short Stories), Special USA (1985 France). Other publishers include 1984, Totain (Spain), Comic Art (Italy), Heavy Metal (USA)

"Short stories have always been my favorite format rather than long, movie-like graphic novels or lengthy serialized stories like "Rebel." The beauty of a short story lies in its versatility—it can be about anything, allowing for shifts in subject and approach at will. It's all about embracing change, exploring new worlds, and keeping things enjoyable. This particular page holds a special place in my heart due to its subject matter and execution and because it features a live self-portrait of myself at the time of drawing the story.

For those of you familiar with my work on Batman: Digital Justice, I'd like to share a bit of comic book technology history. The intention all along was to create an interactive digital CD-ROM book, but as fate would have it, for reasons unrelated to the work itself, corporate decisions regarding the blockbuster movie release led to all licenses being denied. We weren't even able to license my own work within the company for a company project. So, the digital comic books I had envisioned never happened. Instead, I ended up doing Hell Cab, which could be considered the digital comic I intended to create. That was then, and this is now. I want to introduce you to a lighter version of the new digital comic book format.
